A Leicestershire mother claims she has to live apart from her children because her home is not suitable for her wheelchair.

Last year, Zoe Frisby, 35, from Burbage had her leg amputated after developing a heart infection.

Seven months later, she is still living with her mother while her garage is converted into a downstairs bedroom.

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council are paying for the changes but said it will be six weeks before work can start.

Circulation problems

Mrs Frisby, who has two children - seven-year-old Bethany and four-year-old Danny - is living at her mother's house nearby but wants to move back into her own home as soon as possible.

"We have been fighting to have our house done because last year the children had a horrific time without me, and now that the summer holidays are coming up they are asking if I am going to be home for the holidays and I can't answer their questions."

Mrs Frisby said the circulation to her leg was affected after an operation to replace a heart valve.

She was in a coma for seven weeks after the operation at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester and eventually had to have her leg amputated.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said work would be done by non-profit group Care and Repair and added they understood Mrs Frisby's frustration over the matter.

Sally Ann Robinson, from Care and Repair, said: "We have dealt with this as quickly as we could ... and are treating the project as urgent."

Sharon Stacey, chief officer for housing at the district council, said: "We appreciate Mrs Frisby's frustration and sympathise with the family.

"Major structural works are required in order to provide the necessary alterations, but the final scheme has been agreed and tenders sent out to find a suitable builder, to enable the work to commence."
