Wreck diver rescued off Weymouth

A diver had to be airlifted from a boat off the Dorset coast after suffering an attack of the bends.

The coastguard was called to the dive vessel Wey Chieftan IV on Tuesday at 1705 BST after the man returned from the Salsette wreck in Weymouth Bay.

The diver complained of feeling unwell as the boat returned to Weymouth.

The helicopter was met at Poole by coastguards, a specialist dive doctor and an ambulance. The man was taken to a recompression chamber for treatment.
