Abuser who claimed it was 'just a joke' is jailed

A man who shouted "it's just a joke, I'm no paedo" after sexually abusing a 14 year-old girl in Aberdeen has been jailed for four years.

Bruce Lawson, 36, admitted abusing the girl last December.

Judge Lord Woolman described the behaviour of Lawson - who has more than 70 convictions - as "depraved" at the High Court in Glasgow.

Lawson will be supervised for a further two years after his release.

The court previously heard how Lawson chased his victim into the street after the attack on 30 December and yelled: "It's just a joke. I'm no paedo."

The girl's mother was later alerted before police were called. Lawson's DNA was found on the teenager's breast.

Lawson had earlier made a string of indecent remarks to the schoolgirl and showed her a video of a naked woman in a bath.

He had also performed a sex act on a young woman while the girl watched.

Lawson was questioned by police and admitted knowing the girl's age, but refuted claims anything sexual had happened.

The victim now suffers flashbacks and is to receive counselling, the court was told.
