Man in court over murder bid at funeral wake

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident at a funeral wake in West Lothian.

David Sharp, 28, from Livingston, appeared on petition at Livingston Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He made no plea or declaration during a brief private hearing before Sheriff Celia Sanderson, and was committed for further inquiries.

Mr Sharp was arrested following a disturbance at a house in Livingston at about 1800 BST on Wednesday.

No application was made for bail.

He was charged with attempting to murder a 25-year-old man by punching him on the head and by assaulting him to his severe injury and danger of life by repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife.

It is understood a man received treatment for chest wounds at St John's Hospital, Livingston.
