Armed robber holds up bookmakers in Portsmouth

Staff at a betting shop in Hampshire were threatened with a gun by a robber who escaped with cash.

The robbery happened at Ladbrokes in Albert Road, Portsmouth, at about 2145 BST on Saturday.

After threatening the two staff members, the man fled in the direction of the King Theatre. He was carrying a supermarket carrier bag.

Officers said the man may have continued along Harold Road. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The robber is described as about 6ft (1.83m) tall and medium to well built. He was wearing a dark jacket, possibly with a hood, dark jogging bottoms, a mask and gloves and was carrying a Bag for Life or Asda carrier bag.
