Man in court over cyclist death in Kirkliston

A man has been accused of causing the death of a cyclist by dangerous driving while drunk in West Lothian.

Andrezej Stankiewicz, 42, is alleged to have hit the 37-year-old man in West Lothian.

The incident happened in Stirling Road, Kirkliston, at 1400 BST on Saturday.

Mr Stankiewicz appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

Following a brief appearance in private, he made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear again in one week.

The identity of the dead cyclist has not yet been released by police.
