A woman has been rescued by firefighters from a kitchen fire at a block of flats near Merthyr Tydfil.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a three-storey block of flats in Treharris at 2330 BST on Monday.

Paramedics checked the woman at the scene but she did not need hospital treatment.

In a separate incident, south Wales firefighters tackled a fire at an under-construction housing development at a Bellway Homes site in Caerphilly.

Fire crews put out at 2041 BST on Monday.

Three appliances were called and firefighters took around 30 minutes to put the fire out.

No one was hurt in the fire, in which the roof of a new-build home collapsed.

Firefighters were due to return to the site to continue dampening down and an investigation has been launched.
