Northamptonshire 'drink problem' to be tackled
An alcohol strategy has been drawn up to deal with problem drinking in Northamptonshire.
Northamptonshire Partnership has produced the strategy to make the county "a place to enjoy alcohol safely and responsibly".
A report by the Partnership claims one in three adults in the county are drinking too much.
The number of alcohol related admissions to hospital has risen by 109% between 2002/2003 and 2008/2009.
The Partnership has called for "robust" enforcement of the sale of alcohol.
It wants to tackle the links between alcohol misuse and unemployment by working with Job Centres.
The Partnership said NHS Northamptonshire has approved funding of £1.15m to cut alcohol-related hospital admissions - providing extra alcohol treatment services until March 2012.
