Thieves have targeted two elderly women in separate incidents in the Belfast and County Down areas.

Two valuable rings were taken and an 86-year-old woman was slapped in the face by a burglar who entered her home in east Belfast's Loopland area at about 0500 BST on Wednesday.

In Comber on Tuesday, a bogus Housing Executive caller entered the home of a 78-year-old woman.

After he left, she discovered a sum of money had been taken from her handbag.
