A two-year-old boy who was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool at a Hampshire hotel is making "good progress" in hospital, police said.

He was found at the bottom of the indoor pool at Abshot Country Club, Titchfield Common, Fareham, on 12 June.

At the time England's first World Cup match against USA was being screened at the club where he was with his parents.

Police said their inquiry into how he came to be in the pool would not result in any further action being taken.

When the boy was found in the pool he was not breathing but staff at the club revived him.

A doctor treated him at the scene before he was taken to the children's intensive care unit at Southampton General Hospital where he was in a critical condition for several days.

He remains at the hospital but is no longer in the paediatric intensive care unit, a spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said.

She said: "Officers from Hampshire Constabulary's specialist investigations department carried out an investigation into the circumstances around how the boy came to be in the pool.

"This investigation is now complete and no further police action will be taken."
