'Bends' diver flown to hospital

A diver suffering from the bends, or decompression sickness, has been airlifted to hospital from a rig support vessel.

He had been diving 15 miles out to sea at the Douglas oil and gas platform off the north Wales coast.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey flew him to the Murrayfield Hospital on Merseyside.

The diver then received treatment in a decompression unit.
