Dispersal order around local Peterborough shop

A grocery and convenience store in Cambridgeshire has been made the subject of a dispersal order.

Groups of youths have been standing around Virans, in Paynels, Peterborough, and abusing staff, customers and passers-by.

There were 44 reports of anti-social and "rowdy" behaviour in May alone, police said.

A three-month order coming into force on Saturday can force a group to leave the area for 24 hours.

If they do not comply the group members can be arrested.

Sgt Simon Goldsmith said: "I hope that this dispersal order will send out a clear message that we will not tolerate the anti-social and intimidating behaviour that has caused so much concern for local people and the owners and staff at this shop.

"Everyone who lives in or comes to this area has the right to do so without fear of harassment or intimidation and we are doing everything in our power to ensure this is the case."

The area covered by the dispersal area includes the front and rear of the shop, the car park and part of the nearby cycle way.
