A 25-year-old man has been arrested over the death of a woman in north London who was knocked down by a car which did not stop.

Elizabeth Alice Beach-MacGeagh, 20, a Bristol University student from Marlborough, was jogging in east Barnet on 16 June when she was knocked down.

The man is being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and perverting the course of justice.

A car has also been recovered.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the man voluntarily attended a police station in north London on Thursday afternoon and is in custody.

Police had renewed their appeal for any witnesses to the accident which happened at 2000 BST, at the junction of Netherlands Road and Temple Avenue in east Barnet.
