Grimsby pupil affair teacher faces prison
A married teacher who had sexual relationships with three teenage girls has been warned by a judge he faces a "substantial" prison sentence.
Drama teacher Karl Babiczuk-Brown, 29, admitted a relationship with a 15-year-old pupil while he was working at Havelock Academy in Grimsby.
He denied affairs with another two girls but was found guilty of offences related to them at Grimsby Crown Court.
Babiczuk-Brown, of Louth, Lincolnshire, will be sentenced at a later date.
He was remanded in custody.
The jury was told how Babiczuk-Brown's affair with the 15-year-old pupil took place over a four-month period last year and came to light after a trip to an arts festival.
The two other girls, aged 14 and 15, came forward after this affair came to light, the court heard.
Prosecutors said the 14-year-old girl became involved with the teacher after joining his amateur theatre group and they exchanged text and computer messages.
They began to have consensual sexual contact in 2005, the court heard.
Babiczuk-Brown began an affair with the other 15-year-old in 2007. The jury was told he joked to the girl that her and her friend could be his "personal slaves".
All of the girls consented to sexual activity, the court heard.
Sacked from school
Babiczuk-Brown told the jury the two girls were not telling the truth.
In relation to the 15-year-old pupil, Babiczuk-Brown admitted charges of sexual activity with a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
After deliberating for about two hours, the jury found him guilty of meeting a child following sexual grooming, sexual activity with a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity, relating to the other two girls.
The judge, Recorder Euan Duff, said Babiczuk-Brown, of Newbridge Hill, faced a "substantial" prison sentence.
Babiczuk-Brown has already been sacked from his teaching post at Havelock Academy.
