Thetford residents welcome Norfolk-based soldiers home

Hundreds of residents turned out in a Norfolk town centre to welcome home 120 returning soldiers.

D squadron First Tank Regiment is one of three mobile Army units based at RAF Honington near Thetford.

The soldiers marched through the town centre crowded with cheering residents on the eve of Armed Forces Day.

Their job in Helmand Province in Afghanistan was to clear pathways for infantry confronting insurgents and Taliban fighters.

The armoured unit transported infantry fighters to the front line.

They also located 58 improvised explosive devices during a tour in which they suffered three casualties but no fatalities.
