Pupils excluded from Kent school over 'racist chants'

A number of pupils have been excluded from a school in Kent after racial abuse was chanted at fellow students.

The victims of the abuse were children of other nationalities at the Pent Valley Technology College in Cheriton.

It happened during a lunch break, but the school has denied reports that the trouble flared after the screening of a World Cup match.

Headteacher Mario Citro said claims that 25 pupils were excluded were inaccurate and it was "a small number".

He said initially a few children were singing out loud.

"But about 10 minutes to go before the end of lunch we then noticed that some children were chanting what were clearly racist comments," he said.

Mr Citro described it as an isolated incident and said he was disappointed that any individual could make racist comments towards anybody else.
