Thousands expected at Shropshire County Show

Up to 30,000 people are expected to attend Shropshire County Show this weekend.

Advance ticket sales for the agricultural show at Berwick Showground in Shrewsbury have reached about £8,000, organisers said.

Big screens will show England's World Cup match against Germany on Sunday.

The event was the West Mid Show until organisers had financial problems last year and Shropshire Council stepped in and offered a rescue package.

The two-day event was then renamed the Shropshire County Show.

General manager Mary Hopkins said she hoped the new format would continue for years to come.

The Shropshire Food Festival is being launched at the show and there are cattle judging competitions, equestrian events and a display of classic cars and agricultural vehicles, organisers said.
