Police investigating a "vicious" attack which left a man in a critical condition in hospital have said children may have been present.

The 57-year-old victim was found with serious head injuries on Golf Road in Seaton at about 1830 BST on Thursday.

A group of between 10 and 15 people, some possibly as young as 10, were present at various stages, police said.

The force wants to speak to the occupants of a silver Jaguar parked near the burger van in Golf Road.

Det Insp Cammy Preston said they may have seen the people responsible for the attack.

He added: "We know that many of the group did not take an active part in the assault and that some of them may have been aged under 16 and possibly as young as 10.

"I would encourage their parents to contact us if they have any information which may be of interest to us."
