Murder inquiry after woman's fire death in Maidenhead

A murder investigation is under way after a 23-year-old woman died in a house fire in Berkshire.

Emergency services were called to the fire in Moor Lane, Maidenhead, in the early hours of Friday.

Police said the woman who died had been visiting the property. A post-mortem examination found she had died from smoke inhalation.

Formal identification of the woman is expected to take several days but her family has been informed.

Thames Valley Police have appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area about 0020 BST to come forward.

Ch Supt Dave Lewis said: "We are working very hard to solve this case and have poured a lot of resources into it.

"Our officers are out patrolling the area and we are working very closely with the people affected by this tragic incident."

A number of people escaped from the property during the fire, and one man sustained leg injuries.

A woman received hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Detectives are working with the fire service to try and establish the cause of the blaze.
