Ferndown heathland fire 'started deliberately'

A fire on heathland in Dorset was started deliberately, firefighters said.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said they were alerted about the blaze at about 0130 BST on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the service said it took more than four hours for 40 firefighters to extinguish the fire.

She added: "The fire is believed to have been maliciously lit." Firefighters are expected to return to the scene later.
