Vandals damage trees at Walsall Arboretum

A Black Country council is appealing for information after vandals caused damage estimated at £8,000 to trees in an arboretum.

Park rangers at Walsall Arboretum said they discovered the damage to the rare Chinese birch trees when they opened up the site on Saturday.

The trees were planted last autumn after being presented as a gift from the Arboretum User Group.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Walsall Council.

The council hopes to secure lottery funding to restore the arboretum, the borough's main park, over the next three years.
