High-performance cars taken from Surrey Heath driveways

High-performance cars have been stolen from driveways in Surrey Heath after the thieves got into homes and took the car keys.

Surrey Police said an Audi A5 worth £31,000 was taken from a house in Lightwater and a BMW 25 worth £10,000 was taken from a property in Frimley.

Both thefts happened in the early hours of Thursday.

Offenders also took a handbag, purse, three mobile telephones and a laptop from the house in Lightwater.

'Opportunist thieves'

Pc Debbie Reece, of surrey Police, said: "While parking your car on a driveway brings with it certain security advantages, it does give a clear indication to someone who may wish to steal it where the keys are."

She urged people to keep car keys out of sight and ensure all windows and doors were locked overnight.

People should also remove any valuable items from their cars at night-time, she added.

Pc Reece said: "Thieves are opportunists and the more difficult you make it for them, the less likely they are to target your house and your car."

She said the car stolen from Lightwater was later recovered in Wokingham, Berkshire. The BMW was recovered by Hampshire Police.
