Hampshire man punched in attack on doorstep

A 68-year-old man has suffered a broken eye socket after being attacked on the doorstep of his Hampshire home.

The incident occurred between 1930 and 2000 BST in Hythe, on Friday.

Police said he answered a call at Hobart Drive and when he opened the front door he was punched in the face and fell to the ground.

The victim was also punched and kicked several times before his attacker fled. He was treated and later discharged from Southampton General Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
