Public needed for speed crackdown in Buxton

People in Buxton worried about speeding or nuisance motorists are being asked to take part in a new scheme.

Volunteers are being sought to join local officers checking the speed of passing traffic using speed radar guns.

Letters are then sent to the owners of speeding vehicles asking them to respect limits and warning them of penalties if they continue to speed.

The project comes after residents voiced concerns over traffic in the Pavilion Gardens area.

PCSO Michaela Daniels, of the Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team (SNT), said: "The Community SpeedWatch scheme involves volunteers giving up a few hours of their time to come out with their local officers and check the traffic using the speed radar gun.

"It's a great initiative for residents who would like to do something positive with the police.

"Training on how to use the equipment will be given and people will never be expected to patrol alone or have to confront motorists."
