North Yorkshire crashed car rescue man 'critical'

A 24-year-old man is in a critical condition after his car left a North Yorkshire road and became wedged between a tree and a wall.

He was cut free from the car by fire crews, at the request of the ambulance service, after the crash on the B1224, near Bilton in Ainsty, at 0605 BST.

The man, from York, suffered serious head injuries and is in a critical condition at York District Hospital.

Police have urged witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The fire service said crews used cutters and other equipment to remove one side of the car.

The B1224 was closed in both directions between Tockwith junction and Long Marston for several hours after the crash.
