A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Ffion Wyn Roberts in Porthmadog, Gwynedd.

North Wales Police said the man - who has been named locally as Iestyn Davies - had not previously been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Witnesses said that he was arrested at lunchtime at a wool packaging warehouse in the town.

The 22-year-old care worker's body was found on 10 April in a drainage canal known locally at the Cyt.

She had been strangled and drowned.

Police have appealed again for anyone out in Porthmadog between 4 - 8am on Saturday 10 April to contact them.

Businesses in the town have offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction for her death.

Police appeared on the BBC's Crimewatch programme to appeal for information about a pair of jogging trousers and a trainer which were found, along with Ms Roberts's handbag, near a sluice gate a short distance from where her body was discovered.

The make of trainer was Ascot Alaska and the blue track suit bottoms were extra large, with two white stripes down the side and a faded tag inside saying "original".
