A man has admitted killing another man who died after he was attacked outside a Blackpool pub.

Tony Pepper, 45, was found with head injuries outside the Devonshire Arms pub, in the North Shore area of the town, at about 2200 GMT on 29 January.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he died two days later.

William East, 22, of Onslow Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Preston Crown Court and is due to be sentenced on 30 July.

Det Insp Martin Clague said: "The fact that East has pleaded guilty saves the family and friends of Mr Pepper from having to go through the ordeal of a trial.

"This was a needless crime on a defenceless man. It was fuelled by drink and did not need to happen.

"Why East decided to assault Mr Pepper, only he knows. It is another example of people drinking far too much alcohol and not being able to control themselves."
