Boy struggles free from attacker in Stockport

An eight-year-old boy managed to escape from a man who grabbed him in a car park in Stockport.

Police said the boy was riding his bike in the car park at Brinnington Health Centre in Brinnington Road on Monday when a man got out of a silver BMW car.

He asked the boy if he wanted a Nintendo DS, and when he refused he grabbed hold of his wrist but the boy struggled free and rode off.

The incident comes days after a man tried to abduct a girl in Romiley.

'Extensive inquiries'

Greater Manchester Police said they were not linking the two at this stage but were "keeping an open mind."

The man is described as black, tall, of slim build and wearing a blue and white top.

He got back into the car after the attempt, which happened between 1700 and 1930 BST, and drove off towards Northumberland Road.

Det Insp Michael Fenton said: "We are conducting extensive inquiries in an attempt to locate the car and driver and if anyone has any information that may help I would urge them to get in touch."
