Warning after schoolgirl grabbed by man in Essex

School children have been advised by police to not walk home alone after a 14-year-old girl was accosted by a man in Essex.

The man grabbed the girl's wrist on Monday after she had left Westcliff High School for Girls in Leigh.

She managed to fight free and the man went into Blenheim Park. The victim was left distressed but was unhurt.

Pupils should take simple precautions such as always being with at least one other person, police said.

The man is described as white and in his 30s.

He was wearing olive green shorts with pockets, a white polo shirt with a breast pocket, a silver watch on his left wrist and had a plaster on his left index finger.

Anyone who witnessed the incident at 1550 BST or can identify the man is asked to contact police.
