Mayfield Home Trust appeals to carers to apply for cash

A trust which provides grants for people with learning difficulties in Gloucestershire has said it is struggling to give away funding.

The Mayfield Home Trust said it had only been able to hand out half of the £30,000 available for grants.

The trust is appealing to carers to apply for the money on behalf of adults and children with learning difficulties.

The cash can be used to buy items such as specialised wheelchair buggies.

Jenny Smith, from the trust, said: "We know that there are needy people out there - we just want to get through to them.

"Obviously it is a difficult group because with the adults it's going to be their carer or their advocate who is going to have to make the application so maybe we're not quite hitting those people.

"We've supplied cash for specialised play equipment, sensory equipment - because sometimes there's not just learning disabilities but sensory problems too."
