Child porn probe over pair with links to Dover school

Two men with links to an independent school in Dover have been investigated for possessing indecent images of children, it has been revealed.

Police said the 34-year-old husband of a staff member at the Duke of York's Military School was arrested in April.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old gap year teaching student was arrested on 22 June. Both men have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Neither investigation is believed to involve children from the school.

Set within 150 acres, the institution is a boarding school for 11 to 18-year-old sons and daughters of Army, Navy and RAF personnel.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images and bailed until 1 October.

The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of the same offence and must return to a Kent police station on 15 September, he added.

'Safeguarding measure'

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said: "We are aware that the spouse of a member of staff has been arrested in relation to an allegation of publishing indecent photographs.

"As a safeguarding measure, that individual will not be allowed access to the school while the police investigation is ongoing."

The spokesman added the teaching assistant is "no longer on site or on the staff".

The military school was founded in 1801 and was originally an orphanage for children of soldiers killed in battle.
