South Wales Police officers have used a baton gun to shoot a man in Beddau, near Pontypridd, in the early hours.

Officers were called to Cwrt y Garth shortly after 0132 BST.

Police said a round from the baton gun was discharged, and the 24-year-old local man received minor injuries. He was arrested and is in custody.

The force said that "as a matter of process" the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
