Armed robbers raid jewellery shop in Ashbourne

Robbers have targeted a Derbyshire jewellers in an armed raid.

The offenders, who were both wearing crash helmets, entered Avanti jewellers in Dig Street in Ashbourne just before 1610 BST on Saturday.

They produced weapons and smashed through security glass at the front of the store before taking an undisclosed amount of jewellery.

Staff were uninjured but shaken by the incident. Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

It is thought the robbers left the scene on a red motorcycle in the direction of Shaw Croft car park.
