Final chance for South Yorkshire waste plan views

Residents are being given their final chance to comment on plans for an incinerator and three other waste treatment sites in South Yorkshire.

The incinerator, proposed for a site in Bolton Road, Manvers, would take waste from Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

Recycling and composting sites are also planned for Sandall Stones Road in Doncaster, Hatfield Power Park and land at the Corus steelworks in Rotherham.

It is hoped the plans will divert at least 75% of waste from landfill.

Residents can give their views at three drop-in sessions this month.

Copies of the plans are also available on the Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster council websites.

Detailed plans by two rival bidders for the proposed plant in Manvers have already gone on display.

A spokesman for the three councils said: "The development of this plan began in 2007 and has already included three rounds of extensive public debate on earlier versions, with much interest generated, and this is the last opportunity for public involvement.

"After this current consultation, the councils will finalise the plan and submit it to the government later this year."
