Hundreds of people without water in York

Hundreds of people in York were without water for several hours after a problem at a pumping station.

Yorkshire Water delivered bottled water to vulnerable customers and people with special needs who were affected by Monday morning's incident.

The company said customers in postcode areas YO1, YO10, YO19, YO23, YO24, YO26, YO30, YO31 and YO32 experienced the problem.

Engineers repaired the pump at Siwards pumping station.

A statement from Yorkshire Water said: "We apologise to customers in areas of York who were affected by a loss of water this morning due to a problem at our Siwards pumping station in York.

"All customers now have their water supply back on.

"We worked hard to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and customers' water supply was returning from 10.30am."
