A teenager has been been charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft.

The 17-year-old was arrested in Albert Street in west Belfast on Sunday evening on suspicion of shining a laser into the eyes of a police pilot.

He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said: "Not only is it an offence to endanger aircraft, it is highly irresponsible and dangerous. Lasers can cause temporary blindness which can spell catastrophe."
