Man 'thrown from car bonnet' near Shrewsbury cafe

Police believe a man found with serious head injuries fell from the bonnet of a speeding car by a roadside cafe near Shrewsbury.

West Mercia Police found him lying in the road near Dinky's Dinah at Ford at about 0055 BST on Sunday.

He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where his condition is critical but stable.

A man in his 20s was arrested in the Cannock area of Staffordshire and later released on bail.

A gold Peugeot 306 car has been recovered for forensic examination.

Det Insp Mick Homden said: "It has been reported that the injured man had been holding on to the bonnet of the car as it was driven away from Dinky's and then fell off a short distance down the road.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but believe there may have been other people who saw both the circumstances leading up to the incident or the incident itself."
