Five youths arrested over assault on holiday couple

Five teenagers were arrested after a couple on holiday on Portland in Dorset were assaulted outside a restaurant.

The man, 51, and woman, 46, of Swindon, Wiltshire, were attacked outside the Portland Spice takeaway in Easton Square at about 0100 BST on Saturday.

The man suffered head and face injuries and the woman sustained a hand injury. Both were taken to hospital.

Five boys, aged between 14 and 19 and from Weymouth, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The woman was later released from hospital after treatment, and the man was kept in overnight for observations.

One of the youths was later released on police bail while the other four remain in police custody, helping detectives with their enquiries.

Insp Pete Meteau, of Dorset Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone who saw the alleged attack or heard any suspicious, unusual or out of the ordinary activity in the area of the incident before it took place."
