Marine Cove Gardens at Burnham-on-Sea get funding boost
The Marine Cove Gardens at Burnham-on-Sea are to be restored thanks to a funding boost of more than £350,000.
The gardens first opened in 1927, but have been vandalised in recent years and have no dedicated staff.
Restoration plans include reinstating the original lion's head fountain and pool, restoration of the sunken gardens, and recruiting a gardener.
The Heritage Lottery Fund awarded the project £344,200 and Burnham-on-Sea Town Council gave £14,500.
Sedgemoor District Council will start work on the gardens in January 2011 and it is expected to be completed by the following August.
During restoration a visitor viewing platform and a webcam will be installed so anyone interested in the garden's progress can be kept up to date.
