Car pursued by police crashes in Rishton

A car which was being pursued by police in Lancashire has crashed into another vehicle, injuring several people.

Police began following a Volkswagen Golf, which was reported stolen on Thursday, as it left the M65 motorway at junction seven, at about 1345 BST.

It crashed into another vehicle in High Street, Rishton, at about 1350 BST, a police spokesman said.

Two people were arrested at the scene and the road was closed for five hours for accident investigation work.

A man, 34, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after an accident, and driving while disqualified.

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Several people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Sgt Peter Sculpher appealed to anyone with any information to contact Lancashire police.
