Arrest warrant for Devon rowing adventurer Simon Chalk
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Devon adventurer Simon Chalk after he failed to turn up at court.
Mr Chalk, 37, who is also a property developer, was due before Torquay magistrates on Tuesday.
He was summoned for allegedly failing to pay a £13,000 fine for carrying out unauthorised building work to a listed property.
Mr Chalk came to prominence in 2003 after becoming the first Briton to row solo across the Indian Ocean.
Later he was involved in a high-profile, but unsuccessful project called Spirit of Teignmouth, to build a boat to sail round the world.
Torbay Magistrates' Court confirmed that Mr Chalk had failed to appear on Tuesday and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the arrest warrant was still outstanding.
