Police have identified a 27-year-old man found shot dead at his home in Staffordshire.

Richard Deakin, from Meadway Street, Chasetown, was found on Monday morning. Police said he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

A black Vauxhall Corsa, believed to be involved in the incident, is being examined after it was found abandoned in Coppy Nook Lane, in Burntwood.

The cordon at the end of Meadway Street has now been lifted, police said.

Detectives spoke to pupils on their way to school in the area earlier on Wednesday to try to gather any new information, the spokesman added.

Ch Insp Selwyn Burton, from Staffordshire Police, said: "We'd like to thank local residents for their patience while we carried out necessary inquiries at the house.

"Detectives from the force's Major Investigations Department are continuing a full-scale inquiry into the incident and have already spoken to numerous witnesses.

"Neighbourhood police officers will remain in the area and be available to address any concerns residents may have."
