Jersey law courses offered in the island

The first centre to offer full legal training in Jersey has opened.

The Institute of Law will provide courses in Jersey and Guernsey law, with qualifying examinations for advocates or solicitors.

Lecturers from the UK have been brought to the island as visiting professors, and degree courses will be affiliated to the University of London.

The centre was opened by the Deputy Bailiff, William Bailhache, and the Lieutenant Governor, Andrew Ridgway.

Previously legal training in Jersey law was offered in-house by large law firms.

Former Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache, who initiated the idea, developed the centre to be a place to give all students the same level of teaching no matter which firm they were working for.
