Drink-drive cases fall in Wiltshire
The number of motorists arrested during Wiltshire Police's summer drink-drive campaign has fallen compared to the same period last year.
In June, 3,377 drivers were stopped by officers and 97 (2.9%) were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Of those, 672 were aged 25 years or under with 23 (3.4%) arrested.
A police spokesman said the force welcomed the drop in the number of motorists arrested from last year's figure of 6.4%.
In June 2009, 735 breath tests were carried out with 47 arrests.
Insp Nick Elton added: "I believe this has been the most productive drink-drive campaign to date with the number of breath tests carried out having increased nearly fivefold.
"I would like to personally thank those motorists who have been stopped and were tested negatively for their co-operation and for heeding the advice not to drink and drive.
"Although this campaign is now over Wiltshire Police is committed to continue to target drink and drug driving throughout the whole year," he added.
