A detective constable who was being investigated for alleged sexual misconduct has been found hanged.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said Adam Chiffi's body was found in Pembrokeshire by fellow Dyfed-Powys Police officers.

The discovery was made on Wednesday, and an inquest has been adjourned.

Mr Chiffi, 35, from Robeston Wathen, near Narberth, was being investigated for alleged sexual misconduct with a girl under 16.

The IPCC had said on 11 May that it was looking into "allegations of improper contact with a girl".

In a statement on Friday it said: "The IPCC can confirm that Detective Constable Adam Chiffi from Dyfed-Powys Police has been found dead on 7 July, 2010 by police officers.

"Our condolences go to Dc Chiffi's family and friends for their loss.

"Dc Chiffi was subject to an IPCC managed investigation which has now ceased.

"The IPCC can also confirm that it received a voluntary referral of Dc Chiffi's death from Dyfed-Powys Police.

"A decision will be made as to how this is dealt with following an assessment."

A spokeswoman for the force said it was investigating the sudden death of a 35-year-old male in Pembrokeshire.
