Dunbeath man who abducted ex-partner jailed

A man who abducted his former partner at knife-point from her home in Caithness has been jailed for two years and four months.

Derek Inglis, 47, took his former partner hostage in the village of Dunbeath in April. A stand-off with armed police followed.

Last month, Inglis, of Dunbeath, pleaded guilty to abducting Vera Young at knife-point.

Ms Young said it had been the worst, most frightening night of her life.

Inglis forced her from her home, restrained her and took her to his home where he held her against her will, Wick Sheriff Court was told.

Part of Dunbeath was cordoned off until Inglis was persuaded to release Ms Young and give himself up.
