Power line warnings to Northamptonshire anglers
Anglers in Northamptonshire have been warned to stay clear of overhead power lines to avoid potential injuries.
The warning has come from electricity distribution company Central Networks.
Last summer an angler suffered serious electrical burns after a fishing rod came into contact with an overhead line, the company said.
Central Networks has urged anglers to take care with their equipment, and the firm is attending fishing events to pass on the message.
Phil Wilson, Central Networks' customer operations manager, said: "Modern fishing poles are long enough to reach overhead power lines that can carry a potentially fatal voltage of up to 132,000 volts.
"The rod doesn't even have to come into contact with the line to cause injury."
Anglers have been advised to fish at least 30m (100ft) horizontally away from all overhead lines.
