Police investigate rape of woman, 40, in Ruskington

A 40-year-old woman has been raped in a Lincolnshire village, prompting a police appeal for information.

The woman was walking over the railway bridge in Fen Road, heading into Ruskington, when she was approached from behind by her attacker and raped.

The incident happened at about 0200 BST on Sunday, police said.

Det Ch Insp Shaun West said: "We need anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

"We know there was a village social event in Ruskington [on Saturday night] and that may mean there were more people than normal out and about at that time."
