Marks and Spencer records a 17% rise in profits

Marks and Spencer has announced a rise in profits of nearly 17% for the first half of the year.

The retailer made just under £350m.

Its new boss, Marc Bolland, says he wants to reduce the number of branded products it sells, and open new stores abroad.
