US: We would welcome Syria ceasefire

Images of a bloodied and dazed five-year-old boy named Omran have given a new face to the Syrian civil war. The child was injured in an air strike on Aleppo.

The UN special envoy to the country has angrily condemned all parties involved in the conflict, while Russia says it will back a ceasefire in the city to allow aid in, but only for two days.

"We would welcome even temporary ceasefire so that violence can be reduced," US State Department spokesman John Kirby told the BBC's Katty Kay.
